Is a collaboration between Austrian alto saxophonist Karolina Strassmayer (member of the Grammy award-winning WDR Big Band Köln, voted among the Top Five alto saxophonists by Downbeat Magazine two years in a row, performed with Joe Zawinul, McCoy Tyner, Joe Lovano, Maria Schneider, and Maceo Parker) and New York drummer-extraordinaire Drori Mondlak (worked with many jazz luminaries such as Lee Konitz, Frank Foster, Chris Potter, and Barbara Dennerlein). After having played in each other’s bands for many years, these two very distinct musical personalities have merged their musical vision into one.
KLARO! has received heartfelt responses from fans and promoters as well as critical acclaim from the press for their performances at festivals such as the Newport Jazz Festival, Jazzfest Vienna, Salzburger Jazzherbst, Jazz at Lincoln Center, Düsseldorf Jazz Rally, Saarbrücker Jazzfestival and many more. World renowned musicians, vibraphonists David Friedman or Stefan Bauer or pianist Rainer Böhm and bassists John Goldsby or Ingmar Heller(members of the WDR and NDR Big Bands) complete the quartet.

"Strassmayer has absorbed, internalized and personalized what John Coltrane gave to jazz and often evokes him purely on the power of her tone and inflection."
- Doug Ramsey
“Altoist Karolina Strassmayer and drummer Drori Mondlak’s second release as co-leaders Small Moments is a collection of lean and gripping original compositions that the superlative quartet embellishes with their sophisticated and inventive spontaneity…Prior to them joining forces both Strassmayer and Mondlak were well known as creative and intelligent improvisers and instrumentalists in their own right. Together they have refined their art to achieve a bold elegance that is both delightful and provocative, eschewing both abstruseness and platitude.” – Hrayr Attarian
The album displays not only the promises of its title, but also a wonderful sense of cohesion among its participants.
– Ross Boissoneau
“Mit ihrem wunderbar warmen, flexiblen Timbre und ihrem ausgesucht melodischen, reich kolorierten und findig-quirligen Spiel zählt die zierliche Altsaxophonistin zweifellos zur Weltspitze.”
“One of the most elegant and satisfying small-group ensembles of recent years.”
- Drum!, Phil Hood
“Schon mit dem Opener zeigte die passionierte Bergsteigerin Strassmayer, warum sie zu Recht auf dem Gipfel der Altsaxophonisten steht. Längst war da schon der Funke auf das Publikum übergesprungen.”
